fellow plumbers...is it easy/possible to retro fit a coil to a vented cylinder ?

reason i ask is cos today i saw a normal vented cylinder with a 2nd coil at around 3/4 up that was passing mains water through it to feed a shower..ie it was treating it like a thermal store...not a bad idea i thought.
the cold "t'd off..one to the coil, other to the cold side of the thermostatic mixer...it worked well

Yoy could fit a "side winder" if they still make them, but I doubt you would get enough heat transfer.

Better to fit and plate heat exchanger, and attach it to the cylinder with a small pump and two Essex flanges
