Hi, I've been to look at a job today (wiring an extension bedroom) and noticed that the meter tails are 10metres (yes 10!) long. Local DNO will only allow max of 5metres. Not been in the trade long and so not come across this problem before but was planning to install a 100a switch fuse next to the CU and then feed the CU from it. Is this the best way to deal with the problem other than moving the CU? Cheers

But you should think about discrimination with the main fuse.
If you fuse the tails the same as the main fuse then it may be the DNO's fuse that goes (and they do not like that).
If the main fuse is 100A your switchfuse will probably need to be 80amp.

Thanks for the replies; main fuse is 100A so will use an 80amp fuse as suggested - and will site it next to the cutout NOT the CU as my first post says! (been a bit brain dead today, must be the heat)

As I've not used a switched fuse before is there any particular make that you'd recommend to use - or avoid!? Thanks

I tried placing an order with Allaboutelectrics earlier this year; had a terrible struggle to get the correct goods delivered (unanswered emails, phone promises not kept, etc.) I hope you get better service than I did.

It's a copy of a MEM 800KMF so "any good supplier" will have the real one

that price looks low though. It it that dreadful Chinese brand?

The last one I fitted I got off ebay.

The part number is MEM 800KMF IIRC

<edit> just found one here :)
