Hi

I have a Glow-warm fuelsaver F boiler and a Grundfox selectric pump running my central heating and hot water. The ground floor boiler has two pipes going to the first floor.

My problem is I when I switch the system on, the boiler seems to heat either air or water in the boiler very quickly, there is a huge crashing through the pipes and the boiler automatically cuts out, therefore not actually heating the water at all (brrrrr!).

I've checked the header tank which has plenty of water. I've also removed the screw from the centre of the pump and get a very very slow dribble from that.

I bled the radiators some time ago and got a fair amount of air out of them, there doesn't seem to be any in there now.

I also undid the two screw tops around the water tank and had a little air out of those. If I undo those whilst the system is trying to fire up, after the banging, a little air does seem to come out.

There is also a value on the left hand pipe above the boiler. I tried undoing that with the system off thinking that may bleed something, but nothing whatsoever came out of that one, neither air nor water! Is that normal?

There did appear to be a horrid colour on the inside of the screw in the centre of the pump. I don't really know what to do next!

Thanks
Simon.
