Villeroy and Boch Toilet seat fixing

I have a Villeroy and Boch Subway toilet installed 18 months ago in my bathroom. One of the fixings that hold the toilet seat on has come loose and I wish to tighten it up.
However, I cannot see how to access the fixing from underneath. It is one of these modern compact designs that are cowled in so there seems to be no way to get a hand behind it.
Is there a trick I am missing, or do I have to remove the cistern to gain access?

I have the same problem with Vitra loo seat.

I tried to tighten the screw but heard something drop into the body of the unit...

Is there some fitting I can buy that will expand in the cavity of the unit to hold the seat in place?

Any suggestions?
