Ahh right

I was assuming the chimney to be just bigger than the extract hose so no more than say 16cm wide.

Yes that would seem to be silly having it behind the chimney.

So assuming a 60cm hood I will aim to put the FCU 40cm off the center line which will be above one of the wall units and run a small cable duct of conduit or mini trunking to behind the proposed chimney.

That way I have a nice small hole in the plasterboard and could even pre wire with flex long enough to reach any fan in the hood.

Label on the FCU should have it comply with regs too.
