Hi all

I have just bought some vinyl (SP?) for my kitchen. I have laid ply to level all the floor boards, then varnished them in case of spillage.
Any tips on laying the vinyl?
I will put the skirting on after so it will hide all the edges, but any additional tips will be gratefully received.
Many thanks

If by "vinyl" you mean sheet vinyl, then...

1. Make a pattern of the floor out of wallpaper.

2. Find a big room (or even outside) and set the wallpaper pattern over the sheet vinyl. Align the wallpaper with any pattern on the sheet vinyl to ensure that the pattern is parallel to the walls of your kitchen. Then tape the wallpaper down and trace the wallpaper pattern onto the sheet vinyl with a felt pen.

3. Cut the pattern out with a snap blade razor knife and metal straight edge. (Careful not to cut anything below the sheet vinyl. Maybe slide some plywood under the sheet vinyl as you cut.)

4. Spread the sheet vinyl out in your kitchen and make any final cuts to improve the fit.

5. Put something really heavy (like a spouse or significant other) on one side of the sheet vinyl and roll up the other side. If the kitchen is small enough, spread the flooring adhesive on one side of the floor, wait the recommended time for it to get tacky and then lay the sheet vinyl into it spreading it out with your hands to ensure there are no bubbles.

6. Roll up the other side of the sheet vinyl and do an encore performance.

7. If the floor is too big to spread adhesive on half the floor before it starts to dry, then you need to work with a helper. One person spreads the adhesive while the other rolls the flooring out and smoothes it out.

Don't forget .. You may very well need access under the floorboards, especially in a kitchen - at the most inopportune time ! Maybe in a hurry ..... Think- Pipes, cables etc. before you lay.

Nestor_Kelebay,

Of course once someone else comes up with an idea it is so simple - thank you very much for a great solution.

Is adhesive optional ?
