I'd like to get a local joiner firm make up a vanity basin unit that will hang off the wall with no legs. It would be 1600mm long, by 640mm high. Drawers 800mm wide, so three drawers total.
Are there specialised fixings that would support that amount of weight off the wall? Or would it be simpler and stronger to place a batten on the wall at the base of the cabinet, thus taking much of the downward force with brackets to take the rest.

i'd look at kitchen wall hung cupboard brackets. easy to adjust

Three drawers vertical? What about the other 800mm? Strength would be down to how it was designed and type of wall it will hang on.

The dimensions in your post wont work - do you understand the difference between doors and drawers - esp. in a basin unit?
Why not draw a rough sketch with dimensions, and scan it on here?
State materials, and what kind of vanity top & basin you would like?

Hanging units is typically pretty simple - but which unit?
If the 1600mm dimension is to fill a particular space then there are alternatives to a full 1600mm unit.

FWIW: Buying stuff off the shelf is much cheaper than customising it.

When making and installing units such as this in the past I've pretty much universally opted for two parallel, horizontal split battens (something like 4 x 1in diagonally ripped - sometimes called French cleats) secured to the masonry using multiple 5.0 x 100 or 120mm screws in brown (7mm) plugs or into timber with the same screws, but sans the plugs. Securing into metal lath walls requires the plasterboard skin to be removed, 18 or 25mm plywood pattresses to be installed and the plasterboard replaced before attaching the split battens
