Hi, going to be building a small wall to block up a small opening, and will need to use starters. The wall is about 75cm in width, and I'll be using 4inch celcon blocks. One side of the wall will abut an unfinished (ie no plaster) block wall at 90deg, and the other will abut a wall that has been dot and dabbed. Do i 'need' to remove a strip of plasterboard here, or assuming i can get a good fixing on the wall using wall screw in wall ties, will it be ok just up to the plasterboard? The dab cavity is about 10mm or so. The new wall will be s&c rendered when finished.

Thanks

For the sake of a few minutes with a straight edge and a Stanley knife...
It may not be applicable here but you would get better sound, fire, and thermal resistance by taking it up to the existing masonry. You may have to chisel off the existing dabs.

S&C may not cope well with the joins on each side. I’d either mesh them with EML down the join (metal lath) or use silicone type render instead.
