currently got:

- combi condensing boiler (glow worm), no storage tank or anythin
- drayton timer
- trv on all rads

so currently i can having the heating on / timed / off , and use trvs to regulate each room

BUT, sometimes (like now its not quite as cold) i dont need the heating on at all, whereas last week, I did need it on. So what I need is a thermostat really, to turn the boiler on or off, depending on temp of the living room? (which is on the back of the wall from the current timer - thats in the kitchen).

So any tips what I can do? Can I get a £12 drayton stat from screwfix ? Or should I get something better and replace the timer already there?

Suggest you fit a programmable roomstat. My choice is TP5000 by Danfoss. It will allow 6 temperature changes a day and clock is auto set.
