We're currently having a porch built with a warm roof construction. I previously looked into warm roofs when I was considering converting my garage a few years back so was always under the impression you should almost create a 'bucket' with the VCL going up the sides of the upstands as well. My understanding was the foil method was good enough for wall insulation as you can access the joins and any minor dents damage to tape over them, but not for warm roofs as it would make the VCL at the top of the insulation - or half way if you were having two layers of insulation.
The builder have always previously used the foil on the insulation with tape over it as the VCL and completed it this way. I only realised when I was asking after it was completed. Building control have confirmed that the VCL needs adding, but doing so underneath the joists instead is also acceptable, the builders are planning on doing this.
To me, as building control have said it's okay, I feel I don't really have much push back on this. However I'd like to make sure that when this is done, its done belt and braces. Could anyone please advise on things I should check when they're doing it? In particular, anything over the staples, or around the edges as it joins the brickwork. There is also an internal non supporting wall part way through the extension that will need to be built, I assume this should be done once the VCL is in place.
I was thinking perhaps of having some small battons over the joists to allow the electrician to work and also allow us to do things like change the light fittings in the future.
As always any help gratefully received!
Thanks
