Was asbesto underlay put under parquet 50s?

Hi all,

We are doing up our 50's bungalow, which has a concrete floor with parquet, and want to put down an engineered floor.

Under the parquet is what I assume to be the black bitimum adhesive and a black sheeting. Question was asbestos ever used for this in the UK?

I have searched the various sites without luck, only some USA seem to say they were and just recomend wetting it as you lift it.

If this is a possibility I am thinking just to float the engineered floor over the top, in which case should I use a DPM or not as underlay. Again conflicting answers and the local shop supplier did not fill me with confidence when asked.

Asbestos vinyl flooring was used until the 1970s or later

According to this page

the sheeting is higher risk than the tiles. Even so, it's fairly low risk as long as you're sensible.

I would leave it in situ if it's in good condition and use a DPM following the mfr's instructions.

To be clear I am talking about an underlay to the parquet not an older floor that was laid on top of. Makes me wonder about all the reclaimed parquet flooring for sale out there. Surely they could have this same issue.
