Hi! I have Siemens Siwamat washing machine model 5030, it is around 25 years old but works fine. BUT I am finding my shirt collars are suffering and wearing out too quickly despite trying the gentler programs. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice as to which new machine would be kindest to shirt collars?... Thank you!

Ha something excessively worn (apart from your collars) inside the drum zone?

Please show us a photo of these collars. It's a strange problem.

How much room is left in the drum, when you have filled it with clothes to wash? You should be able to put your hand in the gap above.

Machine is 25 years old. How old are the shirts. As John D says strange problem, never heard of a fault like that.

Maybe your neck is getting rougher?

Try putting your shirts inside a pillowcase or a specially designed washbag. It should reduce wear on the collars because they won't contact with the drum.

Better quality shirts?

We've ancient poly cotton bed sheets that are fine (BHS).
Newer ones are wearing at the folded seams (M&S). Fortunately doesn't affect the functionality of those sheets.
