SO it was late at night and the power tripped - I unplugged individual items and found the washer was the problem. Very curious as it was not in use at the time(it was plugged in with the wall switch on but with it's own program dail in the off position.)

I have read other similar advice requests and have checked for damp plugs and damaged flex etc ............ no joy.
not checked the door lock thing yet but
is it possible a component is the cause?

It's a two year( just ) hotpoint hnl6166 and has never had a problem until now.

thanks for any advice volunteered. :)
