Hi, When the washing machine is draining the water seems to fill up into the sink then slowly goes back down. I have all already taken the trap apart and cleaned it out but still is happening. Can anyone assist in what’s the possible causes and solution for this type of issue please?

I’ve attached a picture of the trap.

Thanks

Have you filled the kitchen sink to brimming, then pulled the plug and watched how long that takes to drain?

If same delay then you have a blockage downstream of the trap.

I'm just a DIY'er, so am probably talking absolute rubbish :)
But the exit of the trap looks to be above the height of the washing machine spigot - meaning it would be permanently 'underwater'.
If the sink were to pass the blockage test above, could the initial outflow of the machine start to back up the short distance into the sink, before flowing out through the trap?

OP, have you always had this issue, or has it only recently started?

Chances are you've a blockage downstream of the trap. Where does it go to from there?

Please do not pour a load of chemicals down the plughole, mechanical methods are safer and more effective.

It appears that you machine is plumbed in correct.
Best thing would be pop down to Wicks and buy yourself a water vacuum.

Dis-mantle the trap and put the hose on the waste pipe sit back relax and suck.

A Powerful machine that will also blow if you feel the need. Store it away and you will find other uses for it as life passes by.

Filled the sink up and the water does seem to be going down rather slowly. Would either of plungers be any good to unblock the downstream?

I would find the external manhole first and see if that's blocked. Or check where sink drains to and see if it's a blocked gully.

You'd need to block off the Washing Machine connection first or the pressure wave you are trying to create to shift the block will be lost into that.

Just get a wet vac, remove the trap and suck out the debris in the pipework. Also check the trap.

Forget the above, call out a plumber/drainage engineer. Only call them out on a Saturday or Sunday.;)
