There are only 5 or 6 wasps going in and out of a nest hidden behind facia on side of building near the main path. They die off in winter and told wasps avoid old nests so unlikely to re nest there.. i'm not into killing creatures off if i can help it. Can i leave it alone if it stays manageably small? Any non lethal ways of shifting them?

Its really the wasps that decide how big the nest will be, plus the ambient space, of course......they won't be back there next season but they will leave the paper nest.
You could maybe discourage them by blocking the access hole if possible, or by sprinkling some powder / spray around the general area......they may then seek out a more des res, i.e Darras Hall
