Hi, I have just bought a new toilet bowl (close coupled) and intend on ripping out old and installing new with no experience of this.

On inspection, the base of the new toilet bowl will cover the existing waste hole. Have I made a huge booboo on choice of bowl, or is there a workaround for this. If not how easy would it be to move waste hole?

Many thanks

You can't get more attention by trying to make the title bold because it doesn't work ;)

Terribly sorry, but didn't realise that 'bold' was a no no, you will see that I have only used this a couple of times, and in fact this is the only forum I have ever used. Why is there an option for 'bold' then, directly under the subject line. Don't think that that was particularly nice or fair of you

Yes toilet is ground floor and soil through floor, thanks

Theres no real easy solution.

either:-

1- space the new bog away from the wall (you'll need a wooden structure to hand the cistern from) and this might look stupid,

2. extensive digging and moving of soil pipe.

I didn't read the post properly

Best to get someone in to alter your soil pipe. It does sound funny tho that the new pan covers the soil pipe.

Wouldn't be surprised if the bog that was there before was a low- level(with flushpipe)and the new one is close coupled.Get another low-level one if that's the case.

as suggested u can try a swan neck type pan connector to see if that does it .....or

u can put a piece of wood on the wall to make up the gap...or use copper pipe to sleeve longer screws or.....

u can build out the wall behind the toilet from near toilet height to the floor and make a feature of it ! (use it as a shelf)

or u can pay lots of money and have the soil pipe dug up and moved.

or go and get a low level toilet !

I've just had exactly the same in my bathroom and just finished it this week.

Ripped out a delightful old avocado suite with a low level WC discharging to soil pipe through the floor. Also did away with the horrible unsightly collar affair filled with mortar to seal pan pipe and pushed rubber seal of WC connector a fair way down soil pipe and then filled up with plumbers mait. Looks way better with my nice new tiles cut to a perfect fit round soil pipe. Make sure you shove a bin bag or some rag down the pipe to catch any bits before knocking the clay soil pipe about though. Assuming you have clay pipes here, sorry.

I've built a 6 inch (ish) stud structure to 1m high which brings the pan out far enough for a standard 90 bend (I don't like the question mark shaped ones, feel it's a bit restrictive for a big turd to get round). Have tounge and grooved the front of the new structure and other walls to same height and it gives a nice shelf too for "`er" to put the nice bits on behind the bog and basin. The basin is also relocated onto this stud walling and it all works well.

Hope this helps, it can be done!

Bring the water supply up inside this structure and then bring it through just below the cistern and get a straight flexi tap connector hose from B&Q and on the tap connector end put a 90 degree bend tap connector with built in isolating valve, works a treat. You can buy flexis with a 90 tap connector but you don't have a valve then.

Many thanks for your replies. I built a small stud wall, which seemed to be the cheapest option, I got one of those ? mark bends just to gain a bit more space which I have put directly into clay pipe. I have sealed it with silicone, is this ok?

when you buy close coupled toilets, you can buy ones which have a horizontal exit on the rear of the pan which range from 4 to 6 inches from the wall, do your homework before you buy, also the centre of the soil pipe should be 6 + 1/2 inches from the ground. good luck
