I have spent the day cutting down hedges and bushes in my back garden, I now have a small mountain of green waste to get rid of.

I can't burn it as the neighbours won't be happy.

I was thinking of hiring a shredder machine and then getting myself a massive skip.

Is there a better/cheaper way of getting rid?

shedding into a skip will probably be best. It may be worth contacting local gardeners to check they can;t take it off you cheaper than your skip + shredder hire.

Guy Fawkes night/Halloween, invite the neighbours to the barbeque, not often its a win win. Just keep up wind, as it might smoke a bit.

Couple of dry pallets and a few rags of home heating oil, should get it going?

Yup, cut it up smaller and cover with a tarp. Will have dried out a little to become a smaller mountain by the time bonfire night comes around.
Just don't burn any hedgehogs!
