I have just bought a new Thermostatic shower Valve (hidden pipework type). My old shower system has surface mounted pipework, so I will have to bury them in the wall or build a false wall. However, I have a WATER GOVERNOR fitted in-line with the Cold feed. This is quite deep and chunky and will be difficult to bury.

1. What is the Governor for? One plumber suggested it was for the local water by-laws when the house was built.

2. Do I still need it with a Modern Thermostatic Shower Valve?

Note. I have a old style Combi Boiler (Stored water type).

Any suggestions gratefully received!

governor =pressure regulator/reducer.
Call your water supplier to find out the pressure in your area. Then check the mixer spec for the max input pressure. It'll probably cope.

The regulator can go anywhere in the pipe of course. The hot pressue IS effectively dropped in the combi, when there is flow through it.
