Why did My Electric Water Heater Switch get quite warm/hot when I used to turn it on and why now when I switch it on there was a noise, similar to when you blow a fuse when plugging something in, like a kettle, and its tripping a switch on My main electric consumer unit.

The water heater may be unrelated, it could get a little warm at its rated current.
The socket that trips when you plug anything in to it must be a faulty socket or loose/damaged wire behind.
Which switch trips in the box? Is it a wide one or narrow? Does it say B32 or 30ma on? A photo would help.
If you're confident with electrics you could switch off the main power and loosen the socket them take a photo of the wiring for us.

Although reading again it's not clear if the trip happens when you use the water heater only or when you plug anything at all into the socket?
If it's the water heater only it could be a faulty element tripping the RCD. Let me know.

Thank you for your quick reply. Appreciated. Yes, it only trips when I switch my water heater on. Before it tripped the switch always used to get warm when switched on is that connected to having a faulty element. Also sorry for duplicating post I wasn't sure I posted on correct forum.

OK that's your rcd, so the water heater probably has a fault. The warm is probably unrelated, but you could isolate everything and show us the wiring behind just in case something has melted or slipped out.
Otherwise it's a case of a new element or heater. If you get an electrician in they'll be able to test for you.

Thanks once again for your help. I think I will get an electrician to have a look and fix problem. Ta...

Sounds like that could be right as when I switched the water heater switch on there was a noise and noticed the RCD switch had tripped. I suppose it's an easy fix but I have an electrician booked for Friday morning so I will leave it to him to fix. Thank you for your time and help. Enrique.

It sounds a bit like the element may of gone, not all electricians will replace elements, it may be worth asking him first, if he dont do them you may find you will then need to also pay a plumber.
Also not all plumbers will do the electric side of things if it gets complicated, so it can turn into a bit of a saga

Their responsibility to fix problems - you shouldn't be getting your own electrician, and you may be in breach of your tenancy agreement if you do.
