We moved into our house about a year ago and since then the water pipes that run under the house have banged intermittently throughout the day even when water/ch hasnt been used for hours.

However, we have just had a new kitchen fitting so obviously had a new sink and tap fitted and they have turned the water off. Since then, the banging has got alot more frequent and alot louder.

When I turn taps off, flush toilet etc these pipes bang which I understand it down the water pressure and can cope with this. However what I dont understand is most of the banging happens in an evening when nothing is in use.

I did abit of googling early and came across a suggestion to turn stop tap off, drain all taps and toilet to release any air then turn stop tap back on. I have done this but it doesnt appear to have made any difference.

Any ideas what this could be, and how we can stop it?
