Hi, new here! I'm hoping someone can advise me, I want to run an extension lead from my big shed to my summer house right next to it! The gap is about 10inches and I need something waterproof that will cover them from the elements! Can anyone advise anything? Many thanks

An extension lead needs to be visible throughout it's lenght and is of course a temporary one would not leave it connected one would unplug it and put it away after use like any other portable appliance.

I have and I am sure many others have run out an extension lead to my car to work the battery charger and as long as the plug and the socket are in the dry there is no real problem.

Should the lead become damaged then yes there could be a problem however with the modern RCD protection it is far more likely to trip the RCD than give you a shock.

Of course common sense you unplug before wrapping it up. You could clearly fit a duct large enough to pass the plug through it but really if you were going to that lenght then may as well get a permanent supply fitted.

Covering an extension with anything would likely cause capillary action to draw the water in rather than keeping it dry.

Thank you for your reply! Just a question, are the wires on say your sky or cable that run outside any thicker than a normal extension lead wire?
And another thing, say part of the wire (10inches of it) was outside and it was raining, would this cause the plug to go? The actual plug and sockets will be inside and dry at all time but a bit of the wire will be exposed outside! Is there not anything I can do to cover the wire? I really would rather it covered with something than being exposed! Many thanks

please dont go there. you do know that it is free to get a sparky around to quote. You may want to save some money but you may think it more important to save your life
