Many thanks for your patient input. This whole eons-long discussion kicked off because I was concerned about doing something dangerous in removing and replacing the plug to my non-UK bought TV. I've now learnt that the staff at B&Q are not omnipotent, plus the advice that I have received regarding fuse amp calculation is indelibly imprinted in my DNA for all eternity.
I'll purchase correct fuse tomorrow and if my TV blows up causing a fireball to devastate the north-west I'm sure you'll hear it on the news !
