I am hoping to replace the flush valve on a close coupled toilet. I managed to do the same on a downstairs loo last year. The screws securing the cistern to the wall, or I think they are screws, it is hard to tell as they are completely rusted up. There are plenty of videos on YouTube about removing rusted up wing nut fixings under the pan but cannot find any about getting these cistern securing screws removed. If I hacksaw them off flush with cistern will I be able to ease the cistern forward once the other fixings and pipes are free and then lift it up, dealing with the wall fixings later? It is plasterboard the cistern was fixed to.

Yes hacksaw them off and use brass screws or stainless steel ones when refitting
