I’m installing a patio on a full mortar bed

My next stage in the process is installing 100mm compacted type 1

Do I need to install a weed control membrane if using a full mortar bed?

Joints will be filled with ‘Pro joint fusion’

Thanks

The membrane is not just for weed prevention, it is to stop the sub base (i.e. Type 1) from mixing with the sub-grade (i.e clay) underneath. For the sake of a few pound for a membrane I would use one regardless.

Where are you planning on putting your membrane?
My reading of your words suggest is that you are considering just under the paving stones. Which is not needed.
Membrane goes at the very bottom (close to ground) layer, not the top layers.

On top of the soil before laying compacted hardcore

I prefer using Terram geotextile membrane its seems very strong compared to some of the others

they sell small sizes on ebay

On top of the soil
Can you show a picture of what you're calling "soil" here? Slight concern you might not have dug down enough..

Best priced eBay seller I'm aware of is Elixir Garden Supplies, currently asking £88 for a roll of 4m x 50m. Note that that is the woven PP style membrane like what they make tonne bags for sand/gravel out of. Terram is slightly different, looks more like a very thin fleece with strands going every which way and is usually more expensive than woven membranes
