Bought £120 of lamps today from WF.

20 were CFL's. The WEEE charge was 15p each lamp.

Is this a standard charge levied by all wholesalers, or do some charge more than others?

It is a standard charge of 15p from most wholesalers (except some who are swallowing the charge as a promotion at the moment).

My understanding of WEEE was for the disposal of white goods and TVs etc

As far as wholesalers charge I just pass that on to customers as an environmental charge for 'green' disposal

Just make sure that you take your bust tubes in, when they ask for a disposal payment tell them that you paid that when you bought the tubes!!

domestic customers? - your breaking the law im afraid, your only allowed to charge them carriage at a fixed rate (i`ve got it written down somewhere but not to hand sorry)

you on the other hand should only be charged when you return goods not take them - your suppliers are playing loose with the rules there

From what I understand is that the "WEEE tax" is levied on the manufacturers to pay for the recycling of the items when they reach the end of their life. I don't think that wholesalers should be making this charge, but if I do have to pay it then I do not pay when I bring in old tubes!
