Weight of cieling

Hi any one know roughly what a plasterboard cieling can handle?
I need to mount an extractor fan which weighs 11kg not that heavy, but cant get to the joists. Was thinking of putting a batton resting above the cieling and then screwing to the batton so it sort of clamps it if you get me? But that would give it better support.

What do you mean you can't get to the joists?

Either go into the loft, lift floorboards or cut hole into the ceiling to attach a noggin

Might as well do a proper job no chance of if coming down then
