Weird lights in bathroom! Bulbs gone! Nightmare to find.

Three of the bulbs in bathroom have decided to go more or less all around the same time. Been in touch with the landlord, he told me to try B&Q but I've looked on their website and can't find the exact ones.

Can I use any alternatives? The bulbs are exactly the same as the ones in the kitchen, except the kitchen ones say "GU10" the bathroom ones say "SGU10" - is there a difference? They are both 10W bulbs.

Oh, and they are a snug fit into the bulb holder thats why I'm assuming that I can't use any other type of bulb.

I'm not sure, but I think there are just compact flourescent GU10's (energy saving equivlent of GU10) a good electrical store should stock them. Also, the likes of Screwfix sell them http://www.screwfix.com/prods/52469...olite-Compact-Fluorescent-Lamp-GU10-360Lm-11W

B&Q sell them. Dont trust their website - they have tens of thousands of lines, they dont have them all online.

Yes. The SGU10 ones will only fit the bathroom fittings and the GU10 ones will only fit the kitchen!

Go to www.screwfix.com or any online electrical seller and type in GU10 or SGU10 and you will find them. Or try that little box in your browser marked "GOOGLE"

You'll be lucky to find SGU10s in B&Q stores though

Can you tell me why I can't replace a SGU10 bulb with a GU10 bulb?

They look exactly the same. The Aurora catalogue number printed on both bulbs is exactly the same.

The light fitting in the ceiling states "GU10", but a SGU10 bulb was fitted into it.

They are a slightly different profile at the pin end.

IIRC you can put an SGU10 into a GU10 holder, but not the other way round. This is to ensure compliance with Building Regs L1 (energy efficient lighting).

Would you have any idea as to why those bulbs would have gone so quickly? They were installed for just over a year and apparently are supposed to last 10,000 hours - they've been in the bathroom and there's only two of us and it's not like we have the bathroom light on constantly!

The ones in the kitchen have are still going strong, and we use the kitchen light more than the bathroom light.

10,000 hours is the average time they last, not a cast iron guarantee.
Chances are you turn the bathroom lights on and off more than the kitchen lights.

BAS reminded me that an "average" lifetime of 10,000 hours means that 50% of the lamps will have failed after 10,000 hours.

Some may fail right away, some may last for years and years.
