Well I Think Its Funny....a shaggy dog story

Screwfix do a pair for £1.99. Mmmmmmm...

Been down that route before with Screwfix and you really do get what you pay for......rubbish. Certainly in plumbing fittings. I think they get them made in some 3rd world backwards country. Wales I think.

OTOH take out the rubbish cardboard washer on the tap connector and make a gromet instead.

I was doing a job in Witby yesterday and had to get a filling loop from their local Plumb Centre. 12 quid some pence plus vat. How that hurt, I have 10 in stock at home cost me £3.50 I think from bes. Must remember to keep a filling loop on the van! Why don't all boilers come with?

You know the scenario, customer buys a boiler and asks you to fit it, thinks all the money he's paying you goes in your pocket, so paying 4 times as much for a filling loop comes off your wages. If customers knew how much fittings cost the myth we earn a lot of money might be dispelled.

Aside, doing a boiler change today and tomorrow (waiting for quick drying cement layed bricks in old square hole to set hard overnight before redrilling nice neat round hole). As a diversion this morning went and fixed a toilet, 10 minutes £40 no parts. Best part of tomorrow and some of today sorting out this boiler situation plus I provide all parts needed out of my money, he's getting a tp quality boiler at my best price because I buy so many of them, I have to go through loads of hoops to do gas work these days, and I'll probbaly see less than £200 clear.

Thinks? Why am I bothering with gas/heating work at all?

I sympathise.

I do most of the standard stuff myself regarding plumbing. Not really just to save money, I actually enjoy doing it as well.

There have been times when I have preferred to call in a plumber just to get the job done 100 percent correctly and have always thought it was money well spent. £40 to fit a loo seems a good deal to me. Sure it doen't take long but its a fiddly job and having all the right bits is a pain...as I'm finding out. Ditto for sinks.......

Good tip ref the washer I keep a stock of decent flat grommets as well
