Wetrooms - are they still in fashion and how easy to do?

I would love a wetroom as my bathroom is only small and the floor has to come up anyway and be replaced.
Are they still the way to go as I havent heard or seen much about them lately?
How difficult is it to waterproof the floor and how effective are the 'aquapanels' - basically - how is it done?
