What are the best combi boilers on the market today?

the best combi boiler is the Intergas HRE (IMHO  )

The fewest moving parts of any combi
no plate heat exchanger to block
no diverter valve to break
no auto air vent to leak(the boiler does not get air locked)
the most flexible and future proof of any combi
A rated in CH and 95% efficient in hot water(one of the highest you can get)

it is about the only boiler designed to be reliable.

The way I see it O.P , the best thing u could do under the current economic down turn is to buy & install a made in the U.K boiler , british manufacturing = british job's , alot of these boiler's presently imported into the u.k are fairly new in the u'k market , certain dutch boiler's maybe ?? buy made in britain U know it make's sense :D :D

Where in the uk are you?

In Berkshire and the boiler syster recommended is Valliant Eco831 plus .
I have 14 rads, 3 bathrooms, kitchen and utility room. is this sufficient size boiler or should I go for anohter make. I've also noted that these boilers are cheaper on the net than the price being quoted £1400 ex VAT by the plumber.
Thx

The early Ferrolis had no diverter and no separate HEX and they were pretty crap from a reliability perspective. They were very similar to the Intergas design but were not as efficient (being 15yrs ago).

So I remain unconvinced.

for the op to answer your queastion you must first ask yourself what your priorities are otherwise your only going to get narrowed minded biased installers recomending the limited products they support.

saying that i myself only aprove of a limited range of boilers 5 manufactures to be exact and about 10 models but then thats because there is so much rubbish out there and the products i aprove of will genuinly cover all areas and your requirements

are you concerned about price
are you concerned about energy eff
are you concerned about the size of the boiler
are you concerned about the quality and reliabilty

you see so many question you need to ask yourself and present to the installer before he can even begin to install a boiler that you actually want! otherwise youll end up with a french sounding boiler thats cheap for installer to fit but will proberly last you all of 2 months

It does. The installer has a job when he sticks the boiler in, followed by a steady stream of repeat buisness, when he comes out to repair it.

Which ones are still made here? Keston? What is that huge floorstanding one called again?

well in that case i would revert you to my high class range featuring the following manufactures

Atag
Vaillant
Veissmann

all band A boilers expect to pay the price tag! and under no circumstance expect to pay the same price for one of these boiler as you would in wickes or B&Q

if you want a mercedes you pay mercedes prices and not the price of a skoda

regards

classic...

talk about the mother of specious arguments. lets boil down this some what...some boiler, at some time that looks nothing Intergas makes a duff boiler therefore Intergas is a duff boiler?

sounds perfectly reasonable  please point me to the Ferroli that looks "very similar to the Intergas design" please

the words 'your talk out your arse come to mind'

Well, there's no need to be so ars*y. I will point you to the boiler which

- had no diverter valve
- the fewest moving parts of any combi
- no plate heat exchanger

It's here
http://www.ferroli.co.uk/product_documentation/DOMESTIC_ARCHIVE/Domina_102_Manual.pdf

I think it pre dates your Intergas design by at least 10 years, and it wasn't the answer then.

Other manufacturers make combis today with no moving parts, for instance ACV.

Maybe the Intergas will prove to be brilliant, but my point is that it has been done before, and the approach isn't guaranteed to be successful.
