It is an R clip, and why wouldn't it come up on google?
R clips come up as 'R' shaped ..... i.e like this, the clip I added a picture for in OP , is not an 'R shape'
It's merely a variant of a R clip, if you google R clips there are thousands of slight variations of the shape.
It was R shaped. Its been bent.
I'll ask the guy who used them if he bent them or bought like this.
Is there a reason you are asking? Would an R clip not work?
No ... on a round bar works fine ... I have a selection of R Clips - but I want to have hole in 2 metal plates further away from edge (for strength)
This is similar to what I want to achieve … stop folding legs from accidentally collapsing.
A standard (if a standard one exists) R clip would do work fine there.
I call them R pins, but the correct term - I believe - is a Hair Pin.

Always known them as r clips and/or retaining pin clips
