After a quick trip to the loft my 10mm² t&e measures 16mm x 8mm. So I'd say you have 10mm².

You deserve this post after climbing in your loft at 10pm on a Sunday night Davy

Thanks Davy, that was so good of you. Your measurments dont tie in with WIKI either, maybe you have 8mm2 too!!!

At last, I know what I have! I cut a peice off and took it to my local electrical shop where they confirmed it is 6mm2. I Also met a sparkey there, (well its a good place to) and he (after doing that thing where they suck air throught their teeth) said it would cost about £200 to rewire it to a 10mm2 and I would be better off getting a smaller shower...... which I did, and its all up and running and working. (still cant shower though coz I got me tilin to do!!!)
Thanks for your help.

It seems to me that old 6.0mm² t&e is chunkier than the new stuff, just like SWA.

It may also vary between manufacturers

Did anybody mention that standard 6 sq mm T & E has a solid 2.5 sq mm CPC, while 10 sq mm has a stranded 4 sq mm CPC?

yes but 6/4 also exists (6/6 does too i belive), indeed from some comments i've heared in the past i belive it may have been more common in the past (this may be why old 6mm T&E is chunkier)
