Hi all.

Just started an extenasion and just had the building inspector pass the footings,

Long story but we don't have working drawings which I know is unusual but we've done plenty rear extensions so we know the rough spec and inspectors happy with that.

He asked what pitch I'm putting on the roof and I said proberly around 17.5 but I'll wait and see when we get to wall plate.

He said if you have to go 15 degrees ( which I know we won't ) he said I'll have to use kickers??

Anyone know what he meant by this because I haven't got a scooby, never heard it before?

Thanks everyone

Why didn't you just ask him what they were when he said it?

A rafter kicker is a tapered piece of timber fixed to the top of a rafter at the eaves to alter the slope of steep roofs or certain tiles to slow rain down before it gets to the gutter.

I can't understand why the inspector would say that they would be needed on such a shallow pitch.

Sometimes they are used to pick the eaves tile up instead of relying just on the fascia.
