A chicken! A beautiful free range, corn fed cuddled to death hen for our Sunday roast. About 2/3rds the size of our normal chicken but more that 2.5 times the price. It wasn’t bad. Took longer to cook and the meat had more texture and seemed to me to taste a bit better. One thing though, I did feel slightly guilty- that bird must have been living its best life until it was ended short and I feel guilty about that. Now the other barn bred, cage reared, 20 to a square meter chickens that are pumped full of steroids that we normally buy, I consider I’m doing them a favour by putting an end to their short, miserable lives. It’s a funny old world, isn’t it?
