What have you had for dinner

Having a go at that, for todays dinner, with the separate creamy mash. It went on at lunchtime, in the slow cooker.

The carrots were still hard, at 5pm, on med, so I put it onto high for the final hour. It was OK, nowt special, but what was left in the pot, went into the freezer for the future quick meals. I followed that - finished a few minutes ago, with five of my speciality - crêpes, with golden syrup, and lemon. (y)

Is that golden syrup and lemon together. Or one pancake with golden syrup and another one with lemon.

We were supposed to have cottage pie and spring greens tonight. Mrs Mottie peeled the spuds and when I came in, I put the spuds on boil, took over and made the cottage pie. Made a right Fukup of it! I didn’t check but she hadn’t peeled anywhere near enough spuds (She thought I was using a smaller dish than I actually used) but I only found out when I went to mash them. I just about had enough mash to give the filling a 5mm covering which meant the mash sort of merged with the filling resulting in a dish of what I called 'cottage slop'! Never get a woman to do a man’s job…… ;)

Last night - cottage pie, chips, green beans, and some homemade rich onion gravy. We've really got the hang of this gravy - I gently fried off a whole onion, mixed half a veg stock cube, and gravy granules, with boiling water, then finally added the onions. The gravy, makes the meal.

Going to have a go at toad in the hole, from scratch for dinner today - fed up with the soggy bottom, ready mades, with cheap sausages. Gas 8, 20/25 minutes, but get the dish smooookkking, first, before pouring in the batter. I like the sausages, browned and precooked, not yet sure whether to put them in at the start, or part way through cooking the pudding.

EDIT - Sausages cooked in the pudding dish, in the oven, before the batter goes in it seems!
