What is a good replacement for this receiver and room thermostat?

Hi

I look after a rented house for my Dad, long story short: we had been using a plumber who has since been found to have ripped us off. He fitted this receiver and room thermostat around 6 months ago. Its blown up already and id imagine its because of how cheap it was - plumb center is like happy shopper id guess? sounds like it blew last week, tripped the electrics and the heating hasnt been working since.

Anyway, we need a new one, can anyone suggest a brand that should be a straight swap? one that will last 5 minutes preferably

and is there anyway to override this for such instances? theyve currently got hot water but no heating so it needs fixing ASAP

its for a baxi duo tech but im not sure of model, its 12 years old

I'm afraid this may need some further testing.
To me, the charring around the relay outputs of the thermostat, suggests it switched a dead short - blowing up may not be the fault of the stat or the wiring; but something further down the line, like the zone valve.
Do you know what sort of C/H system you have?
And you mention it tripped the electrics - what exactly tripped, an MCB, or an RCD?

Center brand aren’t too bad tbh and that one is made by Honeywell. I’ve had the same problem with some of our properties so unfortunately the plumber can’t be blamed for this one. I did send 2 of ours off to Honeywell for investigation but they couldn’t really provide an answer. Maybe get him back if you want as it should last a reasonable amount of time, he shouldn’t charge you extra and claim his money back from Wolseley. Definitely worth getting a different brand, although I think it could have been a faulty batch as we’ve got loads of Honeywell/Pro brand thermostats fitted and only around 4 failures that i know of.

The Baxi Duotec - you should be able to use a link at the boiler or join the 2 switch wires from that receiver into a connector block and use the selector switch on the boiler for heating - turning to hot water only to turn off, unless you have a time switch/clock?

Thanks mate, what do you mean by type of CH? it's not a combi i don't think, do you mean sealed? It tripped something on the board, the tenant flucked the MCB back I'd guess

Well.if they are honeywell i know that's a good brand, like the other poster said, it might indicate a fault elsewhere.

Would the boiler work by doing that do you think? I can't recall what controls it does have.

If I can just get the heating to work, I can wait until a plumber is trust comes back off holiday. Can't use the other guy, he's deliberately ripped us off before

How do I know which 2 wires are the switch? They all look like power cables to me. Like I say, as long as it works, I can wait for my other plumber to get back off holiday

yep wires up with the same 4 wires

But it would be better changing the cables and using .75mm flex you shouldnt take hard wire cable into the boiler

still in the PC from answering on that forum.

The thermostat or thermostat receiver can connect direct to the boiler, but also it can connect to a motorised valve, which in turn connects to the boiler. So maybe a fault with whatever it powers?

That fault has got nothing at all to do with the boiler it definitely a stat fault and i would say connection A as the screw doesnt look like its been screwed in enough
