I recently had to snag out a house where the walls were a mixture of dot and dabbed taper edge PB and taper edge PB screwed onto timber studding. The jointer had done an excellent job of taping and jointing the boards, and had sanded the joints out really well. The problem is that the decorators had then just emulsioned the walls with no attempt being made to fill various dings and small holes left by other trades and as a result of mishandling. The quality inspector marked 150 defects on the walls (of a 2 bedroom house) before she threw in the towel and refused to continue.
At what stage should these defects have been picked up and what is the fastest way to deal with this? I was left going over the walls with a flashlight held at an obtuse angle to find bruises and dings so they could be filled (more than 200 of them), which is very time consuming. So there must be a better way. What is it?
