Its me again with another wiring conundrum. We have had our second fix for a full house rewire and I've spotted this upstairs in the landing leading to a bedroom. The bedroom is under the kitchen. Sparky has said this is to link all of the wall lights in the kitchen. There are two wall lights in the kitchen. The consumer unit is almost directly under the doorway of the bedroom as seen in the pic. Kitchen has been plastered now. Is this joining necessary? Could it have been avoided? If not, should this be in a maintenence free junction box?

Thats not acceptable, no need for any junction boxes on a brand new rewire.
There is no junction box under that tape.

Thanks all. No junction box here. Looks like it is the plastic translucent fitting wrapped in tape. This was not temporary and only spotted as im fixing new floorboards.
So definitely no need to have any junction boxes in a rewire? That makes sense to me but this is not what the sparky had said so it will lead to a big disagreement! This is the key point for me... why do this if there was no need in the first place? Why?! What could have been his purpose?

Saving time and money.
At this point, replace it with a maintenance-free junction box. Consider whether you might look for a different electrician for your next job.
Possibly. He has said it was due to having one switch to turn off two separate wall lights. And the fitting on the individual lights is very tight on the final fix
Then he should have taken 2 cables from the switch so only 1 cable per light.
Looks like this job was done by a Highway Man!

Not sure this is going to be revolved easily.. if it is a JB in the end, he has stated its a wago... although i can't tell... its certianly not in a physical box!.. does anyone have a link to the best one? There are three cables going into it. If it is going to be a JB Id want the most reliable on the market etc..
