What paint for radiators?

Any recommendations for a white radiator paint? I only need to do two singles. Also, brush or rattle can?

On advice from here, I painted one using oil gloss. It was in a terrible state, came with the house and was yellowing, scratched and crazed, so had nothing to lose. Sanded it first. A few thin coats so there was no brush marks etc.

You couldn't tell it wasn't a factory finish unless you got up quite close and it blended into the house, instead of the post apocalyptic crack house vibe it has before. Up close you can tell it has been glossed, but, who stares closely at radiators?

We have it on the list to replace all the radiators with pretty (expensive) ones wife wants.

If it was an expensive radiator needing painting, I would consider a rattle can and spray it in the garage, instead of gloss and brush.

If you want to hang wet clothes on it, do not use paint out of a tin.

Thanks all. No wet clothes are hung on it so I’ve bought a can of this. I'm going to spray the side and top panels in my garage and I’m just going to mask off the wall to the side and top of the rad and spray it in situ. I’ll let you know how I get on with it.

I think that is the better option. Don't forget to scuff up the existing paint first. the brown or grey "scouring" pads should be sufficient to provide a "key".

Oh.. and turn the rad off first.

I use Ronseal radiator paint. 750 ml does loads of rads, probably 10 1200mm rads. Water based so easy clean up. Was 15 quid a tin but seems to be 20 everywhere now.

Does it stay white?
I found that many radiator paints go yellow, so I successfully used white acrylic, although I understand that at one point it will/might crack.

I always used to undercoat my rads with white emulsion and then a coat of white gloss. Just trying to do it properly this time for a change.

Yes. Rads look brand new too when done.

I used Dulux Solvent paint with brush, light sanding and brush paint, no brush marks like new. It took 10 hours or so to dry.

It will look good but will go yellow after time!

All sorted. Mrs Mottie decided that I couldn’t be trusted to spray paint a radiator whilst still on the wall so she said to leave alone. Job done. Anyone want a can of white radiator spray?
