What pipe fitting should you use for an outlet elbow like this? Should it go on a tap connector?

The instructions just say “connect pipework with an appropriate adapter (not supplied)” Which isn’t very helpful.

Ptfe tape it,have a few attempts to get it watertight and in the correct orientation

PTFE tape. Use about 12 wraps, wrapped clockwise so it doesn't unravel during tightening.

Edit: @Old&Bold won that one!

No leaks first time! Thanks for the guidance gents. (Excuse the **** poor soldering)

Just one last question- obviously now I’ve got to replace the plasterboard and tile it, do you leave the outlet in place and tile around it, or would you remove it and screw it back in after? Obviously the problem with that is you cant really leak-test it again.

yes remove it and 1/2 plug or cap. when making hole for tiles make sure u have space when taking the plug out

Looks like the chrome elbow fitting can stay fitted, just pull the chrome shroud forward to board&tile then when finished push the shroud back to the tiles, seal with a smear of silicone in between tiles & shroud .

That is once it has been tested for water leaks and the water flow/temperature has been checked.

And before you close that all up... just check to see how much a replacement thermostatic cartridge is for that valve... and if you can even get one - especially in 5 years time! You might get a bit of a shock! :eek:o_O:(

Edit: looking again... that’s just a diverter isn’t it! Where’s the valve?

One problem I’m going to have is that because the stud walls are so shallow (5cm), the outlet sticks too far out even when fully screwed in...

Can I just hacksaw off half an inch of the outlet thread? It will still have plenty to bind on.
