Hi
What size cable is required to feed a consumer unit 30m away from meter, which feeds six independent 10kw electric showers each 4m apart?

Any help would be much appreciated.

have you got 260a spare on your supply?
Have you applied to your dno for permission to add this load?

this is not possible and methinks this is trolling

You can't use a normal consumer unit to feed 6 electric showers unless you can be absoloutely positive that only a couple of them will be used at once.

Supplies that big are nearly always 3-phase so I'd be looking at a 3 phase DB. I haven't run the volt drop sums but I suspect you would be lookin at 25mm or 35mm 4 core SWA for supplying the DB.

There is also the question of where this is going to be fed from. If both the showers on a phase are in use at once they will draw 87A. On a standard 100A 3-phase supply that would only leave 13A on that phase for anything else so you may need to talk to the DNO about a supply upgrade.

If you are serious about this then you need to get an electrician who specialises in large installations involved ASAP.

None, because such a design is fundamentally flawed.

A more realistic solution is a stored hot water system, where the water is heated in one or more hot water cylinders - and for 6 showers, those cylinder(s) are likely to be fed from stored cold water, rather than direct from the mains.

The question is impossible to answer without a knowledge of the purpose of the showers and the useage. I would assume that six showers would not require 6 cylinders to supply them.

Quite so ... but, even if they did, six immersions would require a hell of a lot less electricity that six 10kW electric showers!

It must be a holiday weekend :)

I totally agree, likely 1/3rd of that, 6no 3kW elements, but less than six cylinders would also reduce the demand required again.

It's an unusual troll that doesn't eat, let alone ask for more, even when fed!

Kind Regards, John
