Electricity reaches the end of its wires at a transformer. There, it is changed into an alternating magnetic flux before being induced in a different set of wires. That magnetic flux can carry more than tens of megawatts.
A magnetic flux of a mere 10 kW is nothing. I've been inside the tunnel of a MRI scanning machine using much greater power. I wasn't fried.

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago about a maid working in a big house somewhere in the 50's or 60's or whenever vacuum cleaners were first available commercially. She apparently did not realise she had to empty the vac as she thought the dirt went through the flex and into the wall somehow....
