Hi guys,

looking to take on an apprentice (doing their training - should be ready for ACs in approx 6 months). Is there an average going rate for non ACS and ACS accredited employees?
Any input would be appreciated.

If its a formal apprenticeship then there are set wages according to age and time with you.

If not then its up to you.

My recommendation is that his wage should be based on his commercial value. That could rise from zero at first to £10-£25 per hour when he is good enough to go out on his own to change rad valves and simple jobs. Base it on about 40-50% of the labour charge to the customer if he can deal with it with minimum supervision.

Congratulations on taking someone on.

Set out the rules on smoking, drinking, texting/phoning all day, politeness to clients so he knows why if you have to sack him!
