Hi all

Currently building the frame for my driveway gate (see image below)

I have laid the wood on the floor as I want it to be once joined together.

I am not a diy expert so I want to keep it simple. To join the vertical bars to the horizontal timber, would it be okay to put a screw through the side of the vertical bar in the the horizontal bar?

Any other recommendations... Please bare in mind to keep it as simple as possible, yet strong enough. The timber gate will b 4 foot wide and 5 for high (same size of the timber frame)

Thanks

Mark

Screwing through into end grain isn't the best, but it will do until the outer covering is on the frame (T&G maybe?) which will hold it square.
Some diagonal members would be good too.
John :)

What is T & G?

Cheers

You dont need a wooden frame ,try Google for a Z back door or braced and ledged door design, show us what comes up.

So do I just screw the front flat panels on to the timber that I was going to use as the frame?

what are your panels made from ??
marine ply or exterior at a minimum
you will need a cap on top to shed the water

on the frames off the gates
you need to have a cap off timber slightly wider than the frame and board to shed the water off to the sides
what sheet material are you using ??
