I am just getting prepped for doing my hallway in a week or two, and just trying to work out what to do for the base of the stairs.

They are carpeted and at a slight slant, and my new flooring will be engineered wood (which needs around 10mm breathing space.

Would some scotia beading just attached/nailed into the stairs work? or is there a better approach?

Cheers in advance

If you measure the wood butted up tight against the carpet and then cut 10mm short, the carpet pile, underlay and sponge effect, would cover that gap and still let wood expand if needed.

Take the carpet off the riser then fit the wood 10mm short.
put a gripper Rod with 6mm ply on back 5mm higher then the wood floor.
Then glue double Layer of underlay onto the riser then fit the carpet to the wood.
