My washer is making a whistling/grinding noise - you can hear it in the videos. It is intermittent and often starts while the drum isn't rotating, then continues when the drum starts to rotate. It occurs occasionally at various points during the cycle. What is causing it and how can I fix it?

(Note: it isn't one of the recalled models.)

Disconnect the power, turn off the water, pull it out, remove the lid.
Investigate.

That may tell you more than someone on the internet having a guess.

Agreed. Nevertheless, on the basis that the noise is cyclic but the drum isn't rotating I'd hazard a guess the noise could be due to (a) the drain pump (possibly obstructed or clogged) or (b) a slipping belt if the drum is belt-driven and something is restricting the drum movement.
