I (sorry 'we' my oppo' mixing and me spreading) tackled a 224 sq foot ceiling and it took from 8:00 a.m. till 1:15 p.m. to complete.

The ceiling was 1 board wide (2.4m) and 7 boards long (8.4m). The narrow size meant i could pull in from both walls and overlap in the middle, so this made it a bit easier, or should i say, 'less difficult'.

The ceiling was done in one hit (no joins), and i was flippin wacked at the end of it.

One thing I've noticed about professional spreads is that you have, by necessity, a manic hyperactive gland.

well we have just had a ceiling at work plastered, overall total boards about 11 basically a square room and that was done in a few hours by 1 spread on stilts with a labourer mixing up for him,and no word of a lie we have all said its the best plastering we have ever seen.fabulous job the geezer done.and ive heard he done it for £140 but we supplied materials.

sorry to pipe in but as youve asked ive just plastered a 1092 foot square ceilin with 2 other spreads and one labourer that works out at about 364 square foot each the total boards that went up on the ceilin which i did on my own was 35 its safe to say i was ****ed but i enjoy large ceilins i like the challenge i have a bigger one comeing up ill let you know the measurements if you like once ive got them.

Personally, I like to skim the boards before I put them up. So much easier than all that hopping up and down!!

Hello all, not been here for a while.

Many moons ago, a Geordie spread told me that to be a plasterer you need

The agility of a monkey,

The strength of a horse,

and

The Brains of a donkey.

In my case, one out of three ain't bad.
