Looks like an old surgeons light to me.

Where was it?

In a pub that has had a refit a couple of years ago, and they put it in the corner for some reason,

It is not a theme pub and the pub has no connection with a hospital in name or anything.

It just looked out of place, and people have been prodding the filters.
The centre has a lampholder with a clear pygmy lamp, and looks silly

It's a gun barrel from a giant's colt 45.

I think it's a heat lamp for muscle treatment by psychotherapist, the NHS used to have them in their psyotherapist treatment room on the ceiling which they can lowered it over the clients massage table

In the 1930's Sun Ray treatment was popular, it was give to children, members of the forces, mine workers as well as hospital patients. The photo in the attached link shows a similar looking piece of equipment and some scantily clad cinema attendants.

dentists lamp, pudding basin & a little ingenuity and you have a nice pub ornament
