Got called to look at a socket today.

Aparrently the chap had tried to replace a faulty socket front for his dad.

When switched back on it went bang, but he couldn't understand why. It's only three wires he said.

Who can spot the problem?

Good grief! 3 wires too many.

At least the absence of earth sleeving hopefully did him a favour by cutting the supply before he touched the screws...

EDIT: Just shown it Mrs Echoes who a) got bored quickly, and b) thought the L & E labels on the socket were confusing.

Oh and when I got there today that socket was back on live, only he had left it unscrewed this time.

BS3036 fuse on the other end too

Where did he get the 'new' socket front from? Ashley haven't made that design for at least a decade

if the connections are supposed to be enclosed in a non combustible enclosure surely there are too many box knockouts as well as the box being mounted too deep

No idea where the socket came from, but it's in the bin in my van if anyone wants it?

Judging by the pic the socket has been powered up before being screwed back, the adjustable lug fixing screw being put in first!
