When shall I buy timber for exterior use?

I want to make a timber garden gate. Is it OK to buy the timber and make the gate now or shall I wait for a drier weather? The timber merchant stores the timber outside in the yard.

Personally I would wait till the drier weather. The timber will be saturated from all the recent rain and will be a pig to saw, plus it will shrink when it dries.
